Urgent Appeal by Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat on Unfinished Bridge Crisis in Satpokhran

Satpokhran, August 4, 2024, 6:30 PM – Today, Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat visited Satpokhran and was profoundly disturbed upon learning about a critical incident involving an unfinished bridge that has remained incomplete for eight years. This bridge is a vital connector for the areas of Nagander, Satpokhran Zaintrage, Bathen, Ismail Colony Satpokhran, Gujjar Basti Badwalo, and Gujjar Basti Bajnadi, all of which link to Khrew in Tehsil Pampore, District Pulwama.

The incident occurred this morning at 11:20 AM when a pregnant woman from Zaintrage had to walk over a kilometer due to the unfinished bridge. In the 21st century, such instances highlight a significant failure of the concerned departments and contractors responsible for leaving this crucial infrastructure project incomplete for so long.

Dr. Bhat expressed his shock and dismay, stating, “We live in the 21st century, and yet we still face such issues. It’s unfortunate and shameful for those responsible. I urge the Chief Engineer to address this matter urgently and resolve it to alleviate the suffering of the local residents.”

Dozens of people gathered in Satpokhran to voice their grievances to Dr. Bhat, who assured them that he would escalate the issue to the relevant authorities. Among those present were local leaders, including Sarpanch Mukhtar Ahmad of Satpokhran and Sarpanch Farooq Ahmad Wani of Wuyan, alongside other concerned residents.

Currently, the adjacent areas rely on a temporary road provided by a local crusher owner, which is a temporary solution to a persistent problem. Dr. Bhat emphasized the urgency of the situation, calling it “top urgent” in his address to several media channels via phone.

Dr. Bhat, who serves as the National Media Coordinator for All India Gujjar and Bakerwal and is a noted social and political activist, has committed to advocating for a swift resolution to this crisis. His involvement brings hope to the affected communities that their plight will soon be addressed and resolved.

This unfinished bridge not only hampers daily commutes but also poses significant risks, particularly to vulnerable groups such as pregnant women. Dr. Bhat’s call to action is a critical step towards mobilizing the necessary resources and attention to finally complete the bridge, thereby restoring connectivity and improving the quality of life for the residents of these areas.
