Flash Floods Hit Klang Valley After Thunderstorm, Major Highways in Chaos

KUALA LUMPUR, April 23 — A heavy overnight thunderstorm has left parts of the Klang Valley grappling with flash floods this morning, causing widespread traffic disruptions as key highways remain submerged.

As of 8:32 am, the PLUS Traffic X account reported significant flooding on the Elite Highway near the Shah Alam Interchange, heading towards Seafield. The left lane was blocked, leading to severe traffic jams, and motorists were urged to find alternative routes to avoid further delays.

Flooding has also been reported on the North-Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) at Km 9.1, where the left, middle, and emergency lanes are closed. Traffic is at a standstill, stretching all the way to the Setia Alam Interchange.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Assistant Director of Operations, Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, mentioned that the worst-hit areas include Sungai Buloh, Petaling Jaya, and Subang Jaya. While 86 homes have been affected, thankfully, no evacuations have been necessary as of now.

In response to the ongoing weather disturbances, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued a thunderstorm warning for several states, including Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, and Johor, valid until 9 am this morning.

As the Klang Valley continues to recover from the storm’s impact, commuters and residents are advised to remain cautious and stay updated on weather alerts.
