Putrajaya Braces for National Day Celebrations: Road Closures Announced Public Urged to Plan Ahead

PUTRAJAYA, August 20 — In preparation for the 68th National Day celebrations, the streets of Putrajaya are getting ready for a grand show of patriotism — but it also means some travel disruptions are on the way.

Starting from August 26 to 29, 14 major roads in Putrajaya will be closed daily from 6:00 AM to 12:00 noon to accommodate rehearsals. Among the key routes affected are Lebuh Wawasan, Persiaran Perdana, Jalan Tun Razak, and Dataran Putra. These closures are essential to ensure everything runs smoothly for the big day, where thousands are expected to gather.

But the biggest change comes between August 29 and 31, when 14 main access roads leading into Putrajaya’s Core Island will be fully sealed off starting at 10:00 PM. This move is part of a coordinated effort to manage the crowds and ensure the safety of all participants and attendees.

“We understand that these road closures may cause inconvenience,” said Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus, “but they are necessary to prepare for a safe and successful National Day celebration.”

To ease the public’s journey, free shuttle bus services will be made available every 15 minutes from three designated locations, encouraging people to leave their cars behind and avoid the traffic.

For security and crowd control, 2,708 police officers and personnel will be on the ground. In addition to managing traffic, police will be conducting Anti-Crime Operations across high-risk areas to ensure a peaceful Merdeka Eve on August 31, 2025.

With over 100,000 visitors expected, this year’s National Day is shaping up to be one of the most vibrant yet. Authorities are urging everyone to plan ahead, arrive early, and cooperate with traffic redirections for the safety and enjoyment of all.
