Pulwama to Get Its First All-Women Park: A Space Where Women Can Breathe, Walk, and Belong

In a heartfelt move that blends infrastructure with empathy, Pulwama district in South Kashmir is taking a long-overdue step towards creating a space just for women. Authorities have officially begun the groundwork for what will become Pulwama’s first-ever all-women park — a place where women can simply be.

Set to be established in the Sirnoo area on the outskirts of town, the park is not just a patch of land. It’s a vision of inclusion — a response to the silent yet persistent need for safe, accessible, and dignified public spaces for women. The park will feature walking tracks, green rest zones, open-air gyms, and thoughtfully designed areas that promote health, bonding, and peace of mind.

The Municipal Council Pulwama, with backing from the Administrative Department, has allocated ₹2 crore under the 15th Finance Commission Grants for the initiative. But beyond the funds and frameworks, this project is being driven by a sense of social responsibility. PDP leader and MLA from Pulwama, Waheed ur Rehman Parra, has personally identified the land and advocated for the park, calling it a necessary shift toward gender-sensitive urban planning.

“This park is not just infrastructure; it’s a message,” said Parra. “It’s about telling our mothers, sisters, and daughters that their presence matters, that their well-being matters.”

In an official letter, the Chief Executive Officer of the Municipal Council has requested the Deputy Commissioner of Pulwama to expedite the demarcation of at least 10 kanals of land to move the project forward.

Local women are expressing both joy and relief. “For years, we’ve had no place where we could gather without hesitation,” said Nuzhat Jan, a resident of Pulwama. “A park like this gives us more than just space — it gives us dignity and freedom.”

Once completed, the park will not only add to the town’s infrastructure but also to its soul — offering women and children a much-needed haven to unwind, breathe fresh air, and simply exist without fear or restraint.
