Over 5,000 People Moved to Safety in Flood-Hit Jammu & Kashmir: A Race Against Time and Nature

SRINAGAR: In a heartfelt effort to safeguard lives amidst relentless rains and rising waters, more than 5,000 people have been evacuated from flood-affected low-lying regions across Jammu & Kashmir. The initiative, led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, has mobilized rescue teams working round-the-clock to bring people to safety.

For many families, the past 48 hours have been a terrifying blur of rising water levels, power outages, and frantic evacuations. But amidst the chaos, a united front—comprising the Indian Army, NDRF (National Disaster Response Force), SDRF (State Disaster Response Force), and local authorities—is working hand-in-hand to bring hope and help where it’s needed most.

“We are ensuring adequate supply of relief materials and extending all possible assistance to those affected,” said LG Manoj Sinha in a statement filled with urgency and empathy.

He also chaired high-level discussions with Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, and other key officials to assess ground realities. He issued clear directives to accelerate the restoration of critical services—electricity, drinking water, and communications—in areas where water levels are beginning to recede.

Even as the skies continue to threaten with intermittent downpours, rescue and relief efforts remain undeterred across multiple districts. Emergency shelters are being set up, food and water supplies are being delivered, and medical aid is being mobilized to ensure no one is left behind.

This unfolding humanitarian mission is not just about survival—it’s about the spirit of togetherness in the face of disaster. Thousands may have been displaced, but they are not alone.
