Banihal, Feb 16 – The much-awaited launch of the Vande Bharat Express between Katra and Srinagar has been postponed, with the new tentative dates set for February 21 or 22, sources from Northern Railways have confirmed.
The high-speed train service was originally expected to be launched on February 17, but a last-minute decision has delayed the event. While no official order had been issued for the February 17 launch, railway officials had been instructed to make preparations and restrict employee leaves.
However, a fresh directive has now deferred the inauguration, with sources attributing the delay to ongoing government formation and the swearing-in ceremony in Delhi.
PM Modi Expected to Inaugurate the Service
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to flag off the train on the revised date, marking a significant milestone in improving connectivity to the Kashmir Valley.
When contacted, Chief Area Manager (CAM) Budgam, Saqib Yusuf, clarified that no official communication has been issued regarding the launch, either for February 17 or the newly proposed dates.
“We have not received any official confirmation regarding the commencement of the service,” he stated.
The Vande Bharat Express, designed to enhance rail connectivity and boost tourism in the region, is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Katra and Srinagar while offering passengers a modern and comfortable travel experience.
