Cathay Pacific Cancels Over 500 Flights Ahead of Super Typhoon Ragasa: Travelers Urged to Stay Safe

In a proactive safety measure, Hong Kong’s flagship carrier, Cathay Pacific, has announced it will cancel more than 500 flights as Super Typhoon Ragasa barrels toward the city. The move comes as forecasters warn of severe weather conditions likely to disrupt air travel and pose risks to public safety.

The airline made the announcement during a press conference on Monday, emphasizing the need to prioritize both passenger and crew well-being.

“Starting at 6pm tomorrow, September 23, Cathay Pacific’s passenger flights arriving at and departing from Hong Kong International Airport will cease operations until resuming during daytime hours on Thursday,” said a spokesperson.

The anticipated flight cancellations will stretch over at least two days, with the bulk of the disruption occurring between Tuesday evening and Thursday morning. Travelers with upcoming flights are strongly advised to check the latest updates via Cathay Pacific’s official website and mobile app, and to make alternative travel arrangements if necessary.

Authorities have warned residents to brace for heavy rainfall, strong winds, and potential flooding. With Typhoon Ragasa expected to bring life in Hong Kong to a standstill temporarily, businesses, schools, and transport services are also reviewing emergency protocols.
