Massive Crowd Brings Jalan Dang Wangi to a Standstill as ‘Turun Anwar’ Protest Gains Momentum

KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 — What began as a political statement quickly turned into a major public demonstration today, as thousands of protestors flooded the streets of Jalan Dang Wangi. Dressed mostly in black, the crowd grew rapidly, bringing traffic to a complete halt and transforming the busy heart of the city into a sea of voices demanding change.

The demonstrators gathered in front of prominent landmarks like the Sogo shopping complex and Pertama Complex, carrying bold slogans and wearing T-shirts that read “Turun Anwar” (Step Down Anwar), “Subsidi Hapus” (Subsidies Abolished), and “Mungkir Janji” (Broken Promises). The sentiment was clear: growing dissatisfaction with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership.

Among the more prominent figures addressing the crowd was Pasir Puteh MP, Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh, who didn’t hold back in his criticism. Speaking with intensity, he accused Anwar of failing to uphold campaign promises and driving investors away, leading to what he described as a stagnant economy.

The rally, organized in part by PAS Youth, has seen steadily increasing numbers since this morning. Organizers have announced that the protestors will begin marching toward Dataran Merdeka at 1 PM — a move expected to intensify the demonstration as more supporters arrive.

Despite the size of the crowd, the atmosphere has remained calm. A significant police presence has ensured order and safety, with no incidents reported as of this writing.

For many, today’s protest represents not just a political act, but an emotional outcry—a call for integrity, accountability, and a future they believe is slipping away.
