POONCH — In an emotionally charged gathering on Friday, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah offered heartfelt words of solidarity to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, reaffirming the Centre’s unwavering support amidst the ongoing challenges in the region.
Standing before families torn by cross-border violence in Poonch, Shah didn’t just speak as a minister — he spoke like a fellow citizen, offering both comfort and commitment. Handing out appointment letters for government jobs to the families affected by shelling from across the border, Shah acknowledged their pain: “The Government of India stands with you like a rock. We cannot replace your loss, but we are here, always — in your grief, in your struggle, in your courage.”
He emphasized that the journey of development that began in 2014 would not falter. “Progress will neither stop nor slow down,” he assured, adding that what Jammu and Kashmir has endured has only strengthened the nation’s resolve.
Shah paid solemn tribute to the innocent lives lost in Pakistani attacks that struck homes, places of worship — temples, gurudwaras, madrasas — tearing through the everyday life of people in Poonch. “Your loss is our loss,” he said.
Referencing the attack on civilians in Pahalgam, Shah spoke about the government’s immediate and firm response. “India did not retaliate recklessly. We didn’t strike military or civilian institutions. With precision and restraint, our forces neutralized terrorist bases that were harming peace,” he stated, noting that these attacks unmasked Pakistan’s complicity in harboring terror.
He shared how Pakistan’s response, targeting innocent civilians in border areas, especially in Poonch, prompted a firm counter from India. “Our forces responded powerfully, dismantling enemy infrastructure and forcing Pakistan to agree to a ceasefire,” he said.
With empathy in his voice, Shah spoke of damaged homes and businesses. “We’re not turning away,” he promised. “A relief package will soon be announced, and more protective bunkers will be built along the border.”
He praised the quick action by the J&K administration and armed forces in relocating thousands to safer zones, saving countless lives. “More than 9,500 bunkers have already been built thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s immediate direction after taking office — and we’re committed to building more.”
Shah reiterated India’s clear stance: “Terror and talks cannot go hand-in-hand. Blood and water cannot flow together.”
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who stood beside Shah during the event, echoed the commitment to stand with every family affected by the crisis.
As the people of Jammu and Kashmir navigate difficult times, Amit Shah’s message was more than political — it was deeply personal. “You are not alone. The entire country stands behind you — like a rock.”
