Wuyan, Pampore, August 10, 2024 – Today, a pivotal meeting of the School Management Development Committee (SMDC) took place at the historic Govt. Boys High School in Wuyan Pampore, a school with roots dating back to 1952. The meeting, led by Manzoor Ahmad Mir, Principal of HSS Ladhoo and DDO of HS Wuyan, brought together key stakeholders, including Yasmeena Yaqoob, Head of BHS Wuyan, and other faculty members, alongside local leaders such as Farooq Ahmad Wani, Sarpanch of Wuyan, and Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat, a notable global business figure and social-political activist.
The discussion focused on critical issues plaguing the school, particularly the urgent need to enhance safety and infrastructure. Among the top concerns was the lack of fencing around the school premises, which currently leaves the grounds exposed on all sides, posing a significant risk to student safety. Attendees unanimously agreed on the immediate need to construct a secure boundary to safeguard the students.
Another pressing issue highlighted was the absence of a playground. The lack of a dedicated space for physical activities is seen as a major hindrance to the students’ overall development. A potential solution discussed involved relocating the adjacent road to allow for the expansion of the school grounds, thereby creating the much-needed playground.
Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat, an alumnus of the school, played a proactive role in the discussions, assuring the committee that he would escalate these concerns to higher authorities. He also emphasized the importance of community involvement in maintaining the school’s cleanliness and urged the residents of Wuyan to take responsibility for keeping the area litter-free.
In his remarks, Dr. Bhat lauded the teachers for their dedication, acknowledging their pivotal role in shaping the future of the students and the community. “A great teacher does more than educate; they inspire a lifelong love of learning,” he said, underscoring the value of educators.
Manzoor Ahmad Mir echoed these sentiments, quoting Perseus: “Education is a controlling grace to the young, consolation to the old, wealth to the poor, and ornament to the rich.” He also called on the community to enroll more children in government schools, stressing the high qualifications of the teachers and the collective responsibility to uplift these institutions.
Dr. Bhat, who proudly mentioned that his own children are enrolled in a government school, urged the local community to support these institutions in their mission to provide quality education. “Our government schools can only thrive with our collective effort,” he emphasized.
The meeting ended with a shared commitment from all participants to tackle the challenges facing Govt. Boys High School Wuyan and to work towards ensuring a safer and more supportive learning environment for its students.
